Collective Trauma, Compassionate Action & Healing Through Mindfulness: The GAIA Journey Continues

May 11, 2020

Approximately 6,000 of us joined on May 8th in three of the eight GAIA language tracks, which will be continuing over this coming week. All of them continued the embodied resonance work that we started in our last inhale, continued in our circle practices, and deepened throughout our various sessions.

Complete GAIA inhale sessions are still available on YouTube in their raw form. You can also catch up with previous essential pieces of content and find resources, in addition to the two images created during our Friday sessions by Olaf Baldini here and by Kelvy Bird here.  In addition to deepening our Presencing practice and staying with what has emerged for us in our currect exhale week, the resources below aim to serve as inspiration going forward.

Highlights

What follows are some of the highlights and emerging themes, which we will unpack and explore more deeply over the coming days and weeks:

Thomas Huebl, in the first session of the day, pointed us to collective trauma as the unintegrated parts of ourselves. “We are the bricks in the house of humanity. We are not outside of it.” We will share the fuller essence of this session shortly.

In the second session, Nipun Mehta shared with us the power of radical generosity and how it relates to the essence of Gandhism: Gandhi 3.0 . “What story are we meeting the world with? Can we embrace suffering with a heart of compassion ?” Here is a short clip from that session that you might enjoy.

Alejandro Corchs, in the Spanish language session, shared his own moving story, losing both his parents under the rule of the military dictatorship in Uruguay. “Being human means listening to the pain of one’s own song… What you like and don’t. They both hold a marvelous secret to one's freedom.”

Ubiraci Pataxó, a shaman in Bahia, Brazil, shared a poignant meditation and song with us during the Portguese session here on the Youtube stream. “We have to BE the system.”

And in the final session for this inhale cycle, Jon Kabat-Zinn shared with us his reflections on the current moment, at the 75 year anniversary of VE Day, the end of WWII in Europe. “I think we are in the very early stages of a revolution of consciousness that will invite all sorts of different kinds of lineages and historical traditions to contribute to a profound Global Renaissance.” He also guided us through a powerful Waking Up practice included here.

Essential Framing

Our work is rooted in, and framed by, three cornerstones of awareness-based systems change that Otto shared at the outset of the session: Structures, Thought, and Source. See the related image below, and stay tuned for the upcoming video clip on the website.
