Christian von Plessen
Christian has broad experience from change projects in Norwegian, Danish and Swiss health care systems. He has been an improvement leader for in- and outpatient hospital services, the Danish Safer Hospital Campaign that was supervised by the Institute for Health Care Improvement in Boston, USA. Since 2019 he advises the health authorities of the canton of Vaud, Switzerland on quality improvement and governance of health care quality and safety.
During the corona pandemic he launched and co-directed the cantonal corona hotlines as well as an organisation for contact tracing and citizen information and support. Building on these experiences, he recently launched a citizen dialogue project. Through coproduction between citizens and public authorities, this project shall improve the quality and sustainability of health care and the value that it brings to health.
Christian holds an MD at from Witten/Herdecke University, Germany. He specialised in internal and pulmonary medicine and has practiced medicine as an internist and pulmonologist during more than 20 years. He earned a PhD in thoracic oncology and applied quality improvement from the University of Bergen in Norway. He has studied quality improvement at the Centre for Evaluative Clinical Sciences at Dartmouth College and he is an Institute for Health Care Improvement Improvement Advisor. In his research, he combines quantitative and qualitative methods to study the improvement of the quality of health care quality improvement and coproduction.
