Venla Bernelius
Dr. Venla Bernelius is a Senior Specialist at the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and a Docent (Adjunct Professor) of Urban Geography at the University of Helsinki. At the Ministry, Bernelius works with topics of educational analysis, research-based development and educational equality. She currently coordinates the Finnish “School for Tomorrow” –project, which aims to formulate a new vision for basic education in the context of fast technological and societal change, in collaboration with national and international stakeholders. In her former roles as Senior Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the University of Helsinki Bernelius has led and collaborated in various international academic research projects on urban educational dynamics, school segregation and educational opportunities. She has also developed local and national research-based equal opportunity support and financing models for schools operating in educationally vulnerable neighbourhoods.
