How can we learn to operate from a place of open mind, open heart and open will in order to create broad-based systems change?
The TEDxGAIAjourney live event of Thursday 15th convened approximately 600 interactive participants on Zoom and 400 additional viewers who connected to the livestream. People registered from 80 countries around the world, and were able to choose how they preferred to experience the session: either by connecting to one of the three English Zoom rooms, or via the various language-based Zoom spaces: in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
The energy and passion that each of the speakers brought to the space was heartfelt and impactful.
After Antoinette and Rachel welcomed participants into the Zoom room, a short introduction was shared about TEDx and the Countdown Global Launch initiative.
Otto Scharmer introduced Awareness-Based Systems Change as a complete methodology for addressing the societal transformations needed to respond to climate change.
Arawana Hayashi, one of our master teachers, shared a simple practice for us to experience a sense of grounding ourselves in the body and opening up to heartfulness.
Antoinette Klatzky then spoke to shadow as a source for transformation, and narrated about the GAIA Journey as a prototype for global collaboration and response to crisis.
The listening and viewing of Amanda Gorman's "Earth Rise" poem was followed by a moment of journalling for participants.
Martin Kalungu-Banda then spoke about sensing into systems with the heart wondering what are the resources, methods and tools that we can use to sense into systems that need our transformative support.
Shobi Lawalata brought a sensing journey example: the work carried out in Indonesia with the Adat tribes. She illustrated how they moved intersectionality from the head to the heart, and to the hands through sensing.
After another moment of reflection and dialogue for the participants, Tracey Osborne gave her keynote closing speech about "Moving to Action on Climate Justice". She explained how she is addressing intersectionality in climate crisis through a systems view.
The whole event was accompanied by a live, digital, animated scribing that occurred in parallel at the masterful hands of Jayce Pei Yu Lee. Watch a teaser preview, below... and look out for the full animation, coming very soon.
Please note also that the abovementioned talks will soon be made available on the TEDx official YouTube channel.
Here is a first teaser clip of the beautiful animation created by Jayce Pei Yu Lee who scribed for us during the live session. The full version will be available soon.

We are so grateful to our speakers and to all the people who tuned in for the TEDxGAIAjourney last Thursday. It was an inspiring session of listening, seeing, connecting, reflecting and sharing. We are not alone: we CAN create a healthier, fairer and better future – we just need to keep coming together to cultivate our awareness, and build our “action confidence.”
Keep an eye on our GAIAjourney landing page and save the date for the live session of November 5th.
